USD 387 Altoona-Midway Elementary

In May of 2021, fire raged through the elementary school in Altoona. Galvanized by this event, the community was determined to return to normal. Leaning on the tradition of the surviving gymnasium to anchor a rebuilding effort, a plan was hatched to add 15,000 square feet of classrooms, office, kitchen and commons.
The gymnasium suffered some smoke and water damage but remained fundamentally intact. The existing library was in a separate detached building and the scope incorporated an enclosed connection to the main building, enhancing safety and security for students and staff alike.
