Those familiar with the Newton community know it has a rich basketball legacy. The historic gymnasium, previously the district’s main competition gym, had arrived at a crossroads: fix it or lose it.
Eager to pass a bond issue with no mill increase, this was the ideal project for community buy-in. The District heeded advice from third-party professionals to avoid occupying the space until the appropriate work could be done. The main objective was to tuckpoint the exterior and provide additional structural stability to the roof. Bringing the building up to modern ADA and code compliance was also a high priority.
This project is evidence of our ability to adapt, coordinate, and be creative on behalf of our client. As discoveries were made, our team capitalized on important opportunities like exposing the ceiling, adding flexible learning space in the old locker rooms, and creating an outdoor play area.
